Proton is still making a loss despite posting RM200 million profit

by Stanley, June 14, 2008

Proton posted a net profit of RM202.9 million for the fiscal year ended March 31, rebounding from a loss of RM589.5 million the previous year, thanks to improved sales.

Analysts have said the profit was largely due to a government research and development grant of RM194 million and previous years’ tax overprovisions, which were lumped under income.

Stripping these out, Proton would have made an operating net loss of RM32 million for the year, they said.

Ah ha! Just like what MAS did when they lumped sales of their physical premises, one-time revenue, into their account books. Thus giving the impression of a profitable run to the unsuspecting citizens.

Be wary of GLCs’ published numbers. The numbers, especially those in the black, are often published to gain publicity and media mileage than the naked truth. Hiding behind those impressive numbers are usually government infused funds, bailouts or assets sold. Very misleading facts to rely on when judging how these GLCs perform.

Microfiber floor mops

June 12, 2008
Wow, I bought one a few days ago and I put it use this evening. I tell ya, mopping the floor is much more easier with a microfiber mop compared to my plain ol’ mop I’ve been using for as long as I can remember. First, it can be used without water when you want [...]

It’s the time of the year again. Renewing my road tax, auto insurance premium and to top it off, my car is due to be sent in for major servicing. Punching the numbers in my calculator, I’ll be RM1600 lighter by the end of the month. That’s right about the starting pay level for degree [...]

Indiana Jones 2008 is by far the worst
My wife and I dropped our baby at the in-laws this afternoon to catch the last few shows of Indiana Jones. We seldom get timeout from taking care of our baby and it’s been quite a while since we watched a movie in the cinema. We really looked forward to this afternoon break but unfortunately, [...]
