• Barisan Nasional bribes opposition
by Stanley, April 6, 2008
Didn’t Barisan Nasional repeatedly said ministers who party-hop are irresponsible, disloyal and cowardly? More so for parties who bribe these cowards over? Don’t go telling others to do what’s right when you too are guilty of bribing opposition ministers.
IPOH, April 7 ─ A DAP state assemblyman yesterday lodged a police report that he was offered RM65 million to quit the party and join any Barisan Nasional (BN) component party.Tronoh state assemblyman V. Sivakumar described the offer as the highest which he had received since March 9, from people claiming to represent the BN.”Should I agree to join the BN, they offered me cash ranging from between RM10 million and RM65 million, as well as an executive councillor’s post.
“If I feared for my safety, they (were even willing) to offer 24-hour police protection and assistance to leave the country at any time with my family.
“I decided to lodge a police report as I felt pressured by the disturbing spate of calls and short messaging service (SMS) of late, including having some unknown people visiting my house in Taman Kledang Emas,” he said.
Sivakumar was speaking to reporters after lodging the report at the district police headquarters here about 11am. He was accompanied by DAP vice-president M. Kulasegaran as well as several party representatives.
He hoped the police would, in all urgency, investigate the matter as the same had been experienced by PAS and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) representatives.
Sivakumar said that in the latest SMS which he received the previous night, it was stated that a representative each from DAP and PKR had joined the BN and urged him to do likewise.
Meanwhile, Kulasegaran, who is also Ipoh Barat MP, alleged receiving telephone calls from several known BN leaders, offering him RM5 million to be a middle man to encourage DAP representatives to join the BN.
He said the calls came several days after the March 8 general election but stopped when he warned the callers that he would lodge a police report.
Kulasegaran said: “The Perak BN should learn to be a good opposition as DAP had been over the past 50 years, and not lose its respect with such immoral acts.
“DAP representatives are not for sale… more police reports will be made by other DAP representatives on the matter. The police should investigate and take action (against the culprits).”
