French Open 2008 finals - Federer vs Nadal again

by Stanley, June 6, 2008

Another year, another attempt to win the French Open crown for Roger Federer. While watching the French Open semifinals match between Federer and Gael Monfils, I can’t help but rate down Federer’s chances of clinching the only Grand Slam crown missing from his collection. The only crown which will cements his reputation as one of the greatest, if not the greatest tennis player of all time. Winning on all surfaces.

His match against Monfils certainly didn’t showcase his best form. Monfils, on the other hand, was probably at the top of his game last night. Federer was struggling to keep up for most of the match. Reluctant to go to the net, Federer were netting easy volleys. If he wishes to claim the French Open crown, he definitely needs his attacking game and volleying skills up to par against Nadal. I don’t think he’d stand a chance rallying with Nadal from the backcourt. He needs to mix things up which is easier said than done against one of the best claycourters in the history of tennis, attests McEnroe.

So it’s down to the elegant Swiss maestro versus Monkey boy again. Surface-wise, there’s no denying Nadal superiority and his recent run of clay-court wins have proven it. As much as I vouch for Federer, I can’t help but predict Nadal 1 - Federer 0 on Sunday evening. I wish a miracle to prove me wrong.
