Global oil down to lowest in 4 years, hear that Shahrir?

by Stanley, December 20, 2008

I filled up RM50 of petrol as soon as the government lowered the price by 10c a liter. That was like 5 days ago and there’s still quite a bit of fuel left in my car according to the fuel gauge. This was a farcry from 3 months ago when petrol prices was hovering at RM2.70 a liter. RM50 of petrol at that time couldn’t even last 4 days. Imagine the horror. I’m certainly welcoming the drop in global oil prices. In times of recession, oil prices dropping to as low as US$36 per barrel is comforting.

Now that the government has decided to float the petrol pricing mechanism, I’m eagerly awaiting the next price cut which shall be announced in Jan 1st. But it won’t be much knowing our government, at most another 10c I presume. We’re still paying an additional 60 cents a liter taking into consideration the global oil price. If prices remain low, I am looking forward to RM1.40 per liter petrol prices at the local pumps. Give me that number, Shahrir. Don’t give me bullshit on why the price cut has to be so darn slow and done in stages.
