• I need a salary increase of 20% to cover sudden inflation in Malaysia

The hike in petrol prices in recent months from RM1.92 to RM2.70 per litre has made a noticeable impact on our monthly family expenses. Our family car uses up to 4 full tanks of fuel every month, give or take. For starters, that’s 4 times 40 litres full tank and simple calculation leads to an additional RM100 more in monthly expenditure on fuel alone. We have yet to factor in inflating prices of everyday necessities and food. According to my monthly family financial expenses, budgeting and planning, our household expenses have risen roughly RM300 - RM400. We need a salary increase of about 20% to cover that additional burden, wishfully thinking, and that’s not going to happen. In times like these, we’re lucky to get to keep our jobs.
