• Major WordPress release near end of year holidays, no thanks.
by Stanley, November 17, 2008
As a web developer, WordPress skills rank pretty high on my CV. Making clients familiar with administration of a WordPress blog is one of my required duties on top of delivering the goods.
WordPress is on the brink of introducing version 2.7 where we’ll see a major overhaul of it’s administration panel. What that means to me is completely familiarise myself with the new way of administering WordPress blogs before introducing the new adminstration panel to the clients.
Moreover, I am expecting requests from clients who decided to upgrade to 2.7 to check and update if necessary the custom plugins written specifically for them.
As you may have guessed, I’m not exactly thrilled when WordPress decides to roll out a major overhaul version near the end of the year. Who wants to spend Christmas and New Year ironing out bugs, refamiliarising with WordPress admin panel and updating plugins for their clients?
WordPress 2.7 is now in beta 3 at the time of writing. I’m guessing it will be released very soon. As usual, I won’t be bothered with new major releases until they’ve reached a .1 or .2 where numerous bugs are discovered and fixed.
