Malaysia Parliament - We’re live

by admin, April 29, 2008

By the time I’m done with morning chores, it’s already 10.30am. I switched on the telly to watch our very first live telecast from parliament today half and late. The live telecast wouldn’t have become a reality if the opposition had not denied Barisan Nasional it’s 2/3 majority I’m sure.

The first ruckus came when the speaker denied supplementary questions after Abdullah Ahmad Badawi textbook answer on the Government’s “new approach and plans to continue improving the public’s quality of life especially in strengthening purchasing power, public safety and racial integration”. The reason? Time constrains. Of course, it seems more like a move to protect Abdullah Ahmad Badawi from further questioning. Lim Kit Siang was particularly upset with it, saying it is a mockery to democracy and that MPs might as well stay home and read about the proceedings. Feuds in parliament can only light up further when tough questions come into play later on.

I must admit, the live telecast from parliament is mostly boring. I don’t think I’ll have the time and patience to sit through the hour long telecast. Wouldn’t it be lovely if there’s a 30 min program that sums up the highlights in parliament every day.
