• My faith is with tolerance, humility, respect and kindness

Blogging my thoughts about religious issues has never been my thing. In light of the recent Bar Council forum on Islamic conversion issues and how it was subjected to fierce and hostile demonstration by Malaysian Muslims present to halt the discussion, I’m very disappointed at how things turned out. It was indeed a blessing that no one got hurt in the debacle.
Let’s step back and look at things from a higher perspective. I would bet that any religion, at its very core, teach its followers to be kind, tolerant and respectful to every human being irrespective of faith or skin color. This is the only way people in this world could live in peace without conflict and war. No I’m holier-than-thou sort of bullshit.
But as we look closer, things start to go ugly. We see extremists who contorts the true teachings in order to portray their religion or god to be holier than others. Anyone who questions ever so slightly their interpretation of faith and god is regarded as an insult. Every major religion in this world suffers from extremism to some extent.
I can’t speak for others but from where I came from, my family, religion and god teaches me humility, tolerance, respect and kindness. And I was also led to believe that every other religion emphasizes humility, tolerance, respect and kindness. Traits I’m still trying my very best to embrace in today’s world full of hatred, conflict and temptation.
