• Never a good idea to fly Malaysia flag upside down
by Stanley, September 17, 2008
It has always been the fact that the only flag which should be flying upside down is UMNO’s. Never a Malaysian flag. Leader of PAS Syed Azidi Syed Abdul Aziz, aka Kickdefella, has just found himself in hot soup after flying the Malaysian flag upside down and telling others to do the same a while ago. He was arrested today from his home in Kota Baru and will be charged with sedition.
While I stand by not flying the national flag upside down, I don’t favour a fellow anti-UMNO blogger being arrested by the government. Eventhough the reason for arrest is rational, it’s sad to see one less blogger to put a pen up UMNO’s arse.
From where we stand now, we have 2 bloggers, Raja Petra and Sheikh Kickdefella behind bars. Two prominent bloggers who write about stuff that opposes UMNO. And they’re labelled as a threat to national security making them liable to be arrested for ‘the sake of the country’s peace and harmony’.
Perhaps I should relax my stance against flying the national flag upside down. The way the government is cracking down on opposition voices, Malaysia might really be in a state of distress and flying the national flag upside down is one way of showing it.
