• Nikon D60, I guess I’ll pass …

Nikon announced a replacement for it’s entry level D40x recently: Nikon D60.
So what’s new. More importantly, what are the “new and improved” features that adds consumer value.
The first thing that caught my attention is the new kit lens which now comes with VR. Anything that’ll contribute to picture taking performance is a welcomed addition and the new 16-85mm VR lens scores in this respect.
As I read into D60 specification and features, I’m anxiously holding my breath on one crucial area. But alas, the D60 doesn’t improve on the most disappointing feature (rather, the lack of): the autofocus mechanism to drive older non-AF-S lenses. That sucks and that alone is enough for me to give the D60 a pass.
Oh well, let’s hope Nikon would be kind enough to spare us poor budget photographers the kind of features available in more expensive models. But again, I’m really happy with Nikon putting VR in the kit lens. Kudos.
