• Olympics Badminton Men’s Singles - Lin Dan defeats Lee Chong Wei with ease
by Stanley, August 17, 2008
As I sat in front of the telly, 25 minutes into the Olympics Badminton Men’s Singles Final between Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan, my mind was already running through a few title choices for this blog entry.
“Lee Chong Wei outclassed by Lin Dan”
“Lee Chong Wei mauled by Lin Dan”
“Lee Chong Wei thrashed by Lin Dan”
“Lin Dan kicks Lee Chong Wei’s arse”
“Lin Dan …”
Before I could make up my mind, Lin Dan has already romped to victory with a 21-12, 21-8 match barely 15 minutes later. All in all, it too just 39 minutes for Lin Dan to win his Olympics gold medal.
Lee Chong Wei was in all sorts of trouble from the start. There’s hardly any outstanding shot making from him. To make matters worst, he made so many unforced errors against a solid Lin Dan.
But there’s hardly time to feel sorry for him because my jaws dropped in awe of Lin Dan’s outstanding play. Speed, power, accuracy, touch he’s got them and he definitely put it all out there tonight. The contrast between the two players were so blatant. Lin Dan looked fast, agile and powerful. Intercepting every window of opportunity to put the shuttle away leaving a dumbstruck Chong Wei contemplating what to do next. Chong Wei had no answer. I bet even Lin Dan fans felt sorry for Chong Wei tonight.
