Savings account for our baby girl

by admin, April 17, 2008

My wife and I have recently opened a savings account for our baby girl. We’ve been keeping her ang pow money in our drawer for more than 2 months now. We have also decided to use the savings account as a place to build up her education fund where we’ll save a part of our income every month for years to come. She’s one year old but there’s nothing as starting to early when it comes to savings.

Unless we are bumiputeras (we are not), we’ll be gullible to expect government scholarships or financial aid for her higher education. In this country, the screwed up education quota system are mainly reserved for Malays. They can enter local universities without getting good results whereas for non-Malays, even the best in schools are not guaranteed a place in local universities.

Tell me, if non-bumiputera parents cannot provide the financial means to higher education for their children, who else can. Certainly not the government.
