Shoulder pain pumps

by Stanley, December 22, 2008

I remember many years ago, back in 2000 presumably, I went to the doctor to have him look at my shoulder. During that time, I played tennis a lot and was unfortunate enough to have injured my shoulder. But the biggest regret was not having seek medical help sooner when there were hints of pain in my shoulder. I brushed it off as joint and muscle fatigue.

I was told to lay off tennis for at least a year to let my shoulder recuperate. If I were to keep playing for months to come, I would have seriously injured it for good and the only option was to have a shoulder surgery to repair it.

BTW, I recently read about incidents where patients having undergone arthroscopic shoulder surgery and a shoulder pain pump was used immediately following surgery. A shoulder pain pump is a small device that delivers pain medication directly into the shoulder joint after arthroscopic shoulder surgery. But instead of making patients feel better, shoulder pain pump is linked as a cause to postarthroscopic glenohumeral chondrolysis (PAGCL). PACGL is a very serious condition in which cartilage in post surgery shoulder suffers severe deterioration and cause immense pain for the unfortunate patient.

Wow! I never knew a simple shoulder surgery can have such serious complications. Now that I think about it, having stopped playing tennis for more than a year is nothing compared to that.
