• UMNO considers boycott Permatang Pauh by-election
by Stanley, August 2, 2008
Taking cowardice to another level, Kelantan Umno chairperson Annuar Musa wants UMNO to boycott Permatang Pauh’s parliamentary constituency by-election, the seat which could welcome Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim back to Parliament. Back to where he belongs. Malaysiakini reports, UMNO is citing waste of public funds and the necessity of to play into PKR’s trickery as the main reasons why UMNO should simply boycott the by-election. Waste of money?! That doesn’t even compare to the hundreds of billions of dollars wasted in corruption and mismanagement by UMNO. Unless UMNO’s strategy to bribe Permatang Pauh is to make every voter a millionaire. Or perhaps funding a sure-loss is purely wastage, so might as well boycott and let Anwar Ibrahim a walkover.
My immediate impression is … how silly and cowardly can you be, UMNO?!
But UMNO is not dumb I grant you. It’s just that their public relations with the rakyat is going downhill lately. UMNO is bankrupt of ideas of stopping Dato Anwar Ibrahim. The excuses given hold no weight at all against the significance of Permatang Pauh’s seat which may prove to be the return of Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s return to Parliament. A course of action that could change the fate of Malaysia which IMO, a turn for the better.
We know they know how truly crucial this by-election is. We know they know PKR is very likely to win a landslide victory. We know they know UMNO is going to lose big time no matter who they field. To UMNO, letting this by-election slip and failing to keep Anwar Ibrahim out of Parliament is a huge step to their demise.
UMNO is in a state of panic and they are bankrupt of strategies to put a stop to Anwar Ibrahim obviously. Malaysians however, should be wary of evil trickeries under UMNO’s sleeve. UMNO is fixated in having Anwar Ibrahim stopped at all cost. Inciting racial sentiments. Putting our country under emergency state. Putting Anwar Ibrahim and cohorts behind bars using ISA. Democrary? Human Rights? It means nothing to UMNO who will resort to whatever it takes to hold on to power.
Whatever comes, we’ll know by Wednesday next week whether UMNO cowards chicken out from Permatang Pauh’s by-election.
Update: UMNO brushes aside their intention to boycott Permatang Pauh by-election. The only question remains who will UMNO field against DSAI. But the only question I’m silently wondering is whether DSAI can make it to contest Permatang Pauh at all. If I catch Abdullah Badawi’s drift, he is openly stating that putting DSAI behind bars is one way (most effective) UMNO can prevent DSAI from ever reaching Permatang Pauh by-election.
