Ways to save money when using a printer

by admin, April 22, 2008

  • Avoid blank pages - One obvious way to save to avoid printing a whole page with little or useless content. Spend a minute previewing the stuff you’re about to print. Leave out pages like footers, headers, advertisements, navigation and such. Most websites allows you to view content in printing mode where most of the above are left out leaving only useful content. Make sure to utilise it.
  • Print less pages - Having done the above, you’ll naturally end up with less pages to print. However, that shouldn’t stop you from taking it up a notch. To print less pages, have each single page print more. Reduce margins, use smaller fonts, reduce line-spacing, print both sides on a sheet of paper. Printing Powerpoint slides? Presentation slides uses humongous fonts. You could print 4 slides in a single page without making it unreadable.
  • Toner and ink conservation - Set your printer to print at the lowest possible quality setting for the required task. When printing unimportant text, use draft mode for instance and you’ll be saving a fair amount of ink in the long run.
  • Recycling used catridges - Don’t throw them away. Instead, you can redeem a few bucks when dropping them off at recycling spots. You’ll be doing the environment a favor too.
  • Energy Star rating - Nearly all computer appliances undergoes Energy Star rating and only the ones consuming very low power are reward with the label. Go to www.energystar.gov for more information.
