• Wordpress 2.5.1 - Image Uploading crashes Firefox on Kubuntu
by admin, May 1, 2008
I skipped WordPress 2.5 hoping any major bugs would be squashed when 2.5.1 is released. Yesterday, I upgraded all my WordPress blogs to 2.5.1.
While I was familiarising myself with the new admin dashboard interface, I thought it’s not too shabby. It’s different in a lot of ways, but I could see myself getting used to it. Then when I wanted to do some serious writing, that’s when it hit me the image uploading mechanism crashes my Firefox (Linux) everytime I upload an image. No matter how I try to get around it, it just crashes Firefox each and everytime without fail. I wasted 2 precious hours in the night trying to upload images. This is one heck of a serious bug which should have been caught during testing before such a major release.
Apparently, many WordPress bloggers are seeking solutions to this problem. If you’re having this problem, try these out. Just to let you know, I couldn’t be bother with most of the solutions there. I skipped all of them and installed No-Flash-Uploader plugin to disable the fancy flash-based (?) image uploading mechanism. It worked.
Anyway, despite getting the image uploader to work, I’m still very disappointing how slow, unresponsive and cumbersome the image/media uploader feels. And for some unknown reasons, blogging from a Linux box makes it a LOT worst in terms of responsiveness. Apart from media uploading, the rest of WordPress 2.5.1 seems to be ok.
Until my next major hiccup, happy blogging you all.
