1Malaysia F1 Team

by Stanley, September 15, 2009

When we think Najib and UMNO couldn’t sink any lower, they are proving us wrong. Najib’s 1Malaysia theme promotional strategy is about to cost hundreds of millions of ringgit more in 2010 onwards. Why? Proton will be competing in Formula 1 as early as next season.

My mind immediately recall our so called astronaut, whom in reality is nothing more than a space tourist spending millions of our tax payers money hitch hiking a ride to orbit. Just for bragging rights and even that, calling him an astronaut, is an embarassment.

Anyway, back to our F1 plans. Seriously, even the smallest teams with the smallest budgets, we’re talking running cost of about hundreds of millions of US$ dollars. Honda and BMW pulled out of F1 recently citing global economic recession as a reason. Even mighty Toyota is considering leaving the F1 circus. Sad, but that is a prudent and wise decision. After all, they have to answer to their shareholders at the end of the day.

Here we have Najib decides to compete in F1 under 1Malaysia team, with Proton expertise and technology. Proton you say? Yea, Proton. I can also tell from your lips you just uttered profanities silently. Go ahead, shout it aloud … WHAT THE FUCK, muthaf**ker?!

Just what the fuck is Najib and UMNO thinking spending so much money in Formula 1 when the money can be used to help the poor, the needy, schools, scholarships, health, improve public infrastructure, reduce crime, research and development and so much more. Tell me just one benefit that you and I will get with Malaysia having it’s own F1 team?

Imagine Proton’s expertise, or lack thereof, competing with cars powered by the most technically advanced motor engines and chassis in the world. I may not have followed Proton’s technology development closely but it’s not because I don’t keep up with the latest motoring news. It’s because when it comes to Proton’s technology development, there were none worth mentioning. If there’s a 2.4L V8 naturally-aspirated Cam-(tak)-Pro engine producing in access of 700hp currently in development, I’m totally oblivious to that. Even if that’s true, I dread to imagine how reliable that engine will be, knowing Proton.

Whatever projects UMNO was planning from 2008 until now, I know many of us said no by voting PR in GE12 and the following eight by-elections. Especially when it comes to using taxpayers money in worthless projects. But it appears that our message was not loud enough.

To Bagan Pinang voters, the amount of money soon to be spent in Formula 1 by your beloved UMNO government can instead be used to build so many facilities, developments and improvements in your constituency. Too bad Najib doesn’t think so. If you still give your vote to UMNO, and happen to be reading my two-cents here, do leave now before I say something truly offending.
