• Check safety equipment regularly
by Stanley, January 7, 2009
Last night, my dad came home late and seemed kinda drunk after a night out with his friends at the pub. He wanted to reheat a few leftover dumplings so he popped them into a metal pot, switched on the gas and steamed it. While waiting, he went to the sofa and accidently dozed off. Leaving the gas on for hours. The water inside the metal pot evaporated entirely and the dumplings were charred beyond recognition giving off a very bad smell of burnt smoke all over the house. Luckily, nothing caught fire or it could have been much worst as the entire family were asleep upstairs. Our smoke detector in the kitchen didn’t sound off. I have to admit, we should have check the batteries regularly. It was our fault since I could barely remember the last time we had the smoke detector checked or tested. Lesson one, don’t mess with the kitchen when you could barely stay awake. Lesson two, make sure safety equipment in the house is checked and tested regularly to ensure functionality.
