Internet undersea cable cut

by Stanley, January 3, 2009

As most of you have heard, the undersea internet cable cut recently has slowed most international links. This unfortunate incident has distrupted access to my web hosting servers in the US effectively slowing down loading times to a crawl. The situation has dragged on for more than a week now and I’m getting very annoyed.

I’m in the middle of updating a WordPress plugin which requires me to upload it to my servers and test loading speeds of images and stuff. A 150Kb image is taking 2 minutes to download, if it successfully loads at all. Its absolutely impossible to take these absurb numbers to gauge the response of my software. Not to mention, my work has been delayed unnecessarily due to the undersea cable disruptions.

I know its a huge task to fix the damn cables. I won’t blame the authorities responsible for the cables. Bad luck I guess. What a lousy way to start the new year.
