• My friend bought a new toy - AMD Athlon X3 425
by Stanley, November 26, 2009
I’ve just helped a friend setup a new PC today. A budget system for no more than RM1200. We ended up with an AMD Athlon X3 425 on a MSI 770-C45 motherboard, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 1 terabyte Western Digital Green HDD and a Sapphire HD4650 512MB DDR2 graphics card. Those are the main specifications and we were slightly over budget because RAM prices shot up in the past few weeks. He wanted 4GB of DDR3 RAM but decided to buy just 2GB for now and wait for prices to come down. God knows when that’ll happen.
I didn’t have the time to help him install Windows, softwares and games though because I’m very busy at home. With a toddler and infant to take care of along with my wife. I guess he’s having a pleasant night playing with his spanking new toy. *Envy*
If I can steal some time away from house chores tomorrow, I’ll go over to his house to check his new PC out and help him install my favourite few security softwares and image it. I’m quite looking forward to check out the new triple-core AMD Athlon X3 425 CPU which is only slightly more expensive than a dual-core. That makes it really value-for-money IMO. But my first choice for a new PC is AMD’s quad-core Athlon X4 620 eventhough it is more expensive compared to Athlon X3 425. Still, it is the cheapest quad-core on the market and performance wise, not too shabby it seems.
