Roger Federer is through to French Open semis

by Stanley, June 3, 2009

Federer is through to the semi-finals of the French Open with a straight-sets victory over Gael Monfils. Much less messy than the five-set tussle with Haas two nights ago.

He will now meet another straight-sets victor in Juan Del-Potro who brushed aside Tommy Robredo convincingly.

Just two more matches for Federer to reach the mantle of greatest tennis player ever. Will this be the historic French Open championship to crown a legend? This weekend will go down as having the most anticipated matches for tennis fans worldwide. The significance of the upcoming two matches for Federer is biblical. Federer would be battling two opponents at once. The opponent opposite of him on the other side of the net. And a greater opponent that is himself. The pressure for him to win the next two matches is unimaginable to us mere mortals.

The anticipation and excitement in the tennis world is about to reach peak levels. All eyes will be on Federer’s semifinals match. And if the lucky stars align, Roland Garros will be the historic venue a tennis legend shall be enshrined this Sunday.
