• Whether we realise or not, Malaysia is already a police state
by Stanley, May 27, 2009
Malaysia is under threat of becoming a police state. Some people are of the opinion that we are already a police state. We just don’t realise it yet. I can’t agree more.
Barisan Nasional (BN) who has been ruling the country for more than 50 years is so rooted in corruption, abuse of power, racism, selective judiciary, selective prosecution that we should not be surprised the police force is under their control.
Perak is currently showcasing how the police is bullying the opposition Pakatan Rakyat. Every peaceful event or gathering is being called illegal and that’s the only reason given to nab participating opposition ministers and common folks back to police station for coffee. The police know they have nothing to pin on them so those arrested are released within a day or two. Sounds to me like scare tactics.
Everyone knows UMNO is very well behind all these violations and crackdowns. It is to suppress the opposition. To keep them quiet about the illegal power grab in Perak’s coup d’etat engineered by Najib which backfired and severely damaging their already rock-bottom credebility and public image.
Some say Pakatan Rakyat is silly by starving themselves. To me, Pakatan Rakyat is trying their best to draw attention to BN’s illegal Perak power grab. If justice, democracy and federal constitution options has been exhausted, what choice do they have left but to use whatever means necessary to keep this pressing issue afloat. We must not let Perak’s debacle slowly fade away from the media. We must not forget to fight what is right.
If you think the current situation with the police is bad, you ain’t see nothing yet. I predict we’ll see the true colors of a full-blown police state should Barisan Nasional lose in the next 2013 general election. Brace yourselves. State of emergency will be declared. Police will be ordered to go on a rampage spree to arrest all opposition topguns and supporters.
Is that not possible? The true meaning of ‘Malaysia Boleh’ is aptly exemplified by Najib, despite being accused of being involved in a high-profile murder of Altantuya Sharibuu, can be crowned Prime Minister of Malaysia. The entire world has tabloids publishing in such details that Najib and his wife are involved. Najib does not dare to sue the foreign tabloids and his silence is a very telling sign. Only the spirit of “Malaysia Boleh” can this man be made a Prime Minister.
No matter how turbulent times may be in the near future, resist Barisan Nasional we must. We must not be afraid to bring Barisan Nasional down no matter how heavy the price is. Do not let our children live in a place resembling today’s Myanmar or Zimbabwe.
