• My new AMD Sempron 140 Sargas CPU unlocks to dual-core Regor!
by Stanley, October 31, 2010
My old Sempron PC has retired. I have bought a new PC two days ago. Here’s the specs: AMD Sempron 140, Gigabyte GA880GM-U2DH, 2GB Kingston DDR3 RAM, 450W Blue Wolf PSU. I’m using my old 500GB HDD, DVD-Rewriter drive and casing still.
I am currently busy installing Windows 7, personalizing user interface, tightening security settings, tweaking it here and there until I’m satisfied to make a backup image using Acronis. I will then install all the programs I need and make another backup image before I go online. Here I am blogging using my wife’s laptop.
The biggest surprise was being able to unlock AMD Sempron 140’s second core. I am still stress testing my newly unlocked AMD Athlon II X2 ‘Regor’ CPU using Intel Burn Test, HyperPI and Prime95 to ensure it is stable enough. So far, I’ve logged more than 5 hours of testing using the above mentioned programs. More tests to follow. Fingers crossed, if I’m lucky, I am getting a stable dual-core processor for the price of a single-core AMD Sempron 140 ‘Sargas’. I do not intend to overclock it as I’m more than satisfied able to unlock it into a dual-core processor. I very much prefer a slower dual-core than an over-clocked single-core Sempron.
More stress testing will resume. Wish me luck …
