• Setting up my Windows 7 workstation
by Stanley, November 4, 2010
I’ll be using Windows 7 Enterprise x64 operating system for my new PC. I’ve been spending days setting everything up, personalizing user interfaces and most importantly, setting up the security options in Windows 7 - DEP, SEHOP, Applocker, LUA, non-autoplay.
These few Windows 7 security features are proven to be very effective at keeping malware away. Few people I know use their PC daily without running anti-virus in the background with those security features alone. For me though, I’m using Sandboxie and Avira Antivir Free Edition on top of that.
I can’t praise Sandboxie enough which to me is a brilliant and essential anti malware software. One sentence sums Sandboxie up: If computers viruses and malwares are sexually transmitted diseases (STD), then Sandboxie is your computer’s condom.
I use Mozilla Firefox and protects it with Noscript. It prevent scripts in websites to run unless I give it the green signal.
Everything is pretty much set. I’ve made an image backup using Acronis before my PC touches the internet. If anything goes wrong, I could always restore my PC using this squeeky clean backup.
