• Federer is out of 2011 Australian Open

Argghh! Federer went down to Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open! There goes my chance of winning five hundred bucks from my friend. Our wager goes like this. I bet on Federer to win the AO and he bets on Nadal. Five hundred bucks to whoever’s pick wins. If neither of the wins, the bet is off.

When Nadal lost to Ferrer due to thigh injury, I thought my chance is greatly improved. But too bad Novak played in form that day and Federer failed to step up his game. The win goes to Novak in three fairly close sets.

Federer will have to wait for Wimbledon to add another Slam to his total of 16. Nadal is closing in fast on his record and Federer would have to add at least 2 titles, to make it 18 to make it nearly impossible for Nadal to surpass.

This year’s Australia Open surprise would have to be China’s 29yo Li Na who beat Caroline Wozniaki to reach the finals. If Li Na wins the final, she will deliver China’s first tennis major title.
