My daughter and her iPad

by Stanley, March 29, 2011

My daughter loves the iPad so much, she’s spending more time on it than I do. I’ve downloaded plenty of educational stuff, games, puzzles, interactive story books, drawing and painting apps for her. Some paid albeit mostly discounted apps. And plenty of free apps. Enough to fill more than 4GB, which is a huge chunk in my 16GB iPad. Enough to keep her occupied for hours everyday. Before the iPad, she spend hours watching cartoons on the idiot box every day. The iPad managed to put a stop to that.

She’ll turn 4 in two months time. She’s been pestering me to let her play computer games. Before I bought the iPad, we have only two computers at home. I use a desktop PC for work while my wife use a notebook computer for various stuff. I work very long hours and can’t spare my desktop for my daughter to play games. The notebook is very old and we wouldn’t want to subject it to being tortured by a 4yo. We never really considered gaming consoles such as PlayStation or XBox because kid games are sparse and expensive. So when the huge price cut was announced for the iPad following the release of iPad 2, I knew this would be the perfect device for her. The touchscreen interface is no doubt making it very easy and fun for kids to enjoy.

The iPad keeps her quiet and occupied both at home and even in the car. Because I work from home, I appreciate every minute not being bothered by kids. Thanks to the iPad, I get more peace and quiet moments where I can concentrate on my work. Eventhough I don’t get to use the iPad much at home, that’s ok. What I’m getting instead is much more precious to me now. Uninterrupted time for work!
