RAM prices dropping

by Stanley, November 21, 2010

RAM prices are falling. 4GB sticks of RAM is starting to become the norm these days as you can see their huge drop in prices. I should’ve waited a bit longer to upgrade my PC and opt for a 4GB stick instead of 2GB. Multi-tasking can sometimes consume a lot of RAM. Especially Firefox and Photoshop which I often have running simultaneously. I no longer tweak Firefox to reduce memory usage as much as possible. Or run CleanMem on a scheduled 5-min intervals to free up unused RAM ever since I got myself 2GB of RAM. But if prices for 4GB RAM continue to drop lower, I might just add one to make it a total of 6GB.

Setting up my Windows 7 workstation

November 4, 2010
I’ll be using Windows 7 Enterprise x64 operating system for my new PC. I’ve been spending days setting everything up, personalizing user interfaces and most importantly, setting up the security options in Windows 7 - DEP, SEHOP, Applocker, LUA, non-autoplay. Why I’m not interested in Streamyx high-speed broadband internet

April 6, 2010
Telekom Malaysia launched a couple of high-speed broadband packages two week ago. I didn’t bother to find out much because I’m certain the initial services won’t be rolling out in my area anytime soon. Another reason for my ignorance is I absolutely have zero faith in TM’s “best effort” quality of service. Admittedly, it’s the money [...]

OpenOffice 3.2 loads noticeably faster

January 17, 2010
OpenOffice has been my bread and butter word and spreadsheet editing software since back in version 2.3 days. Loading OpenOffice after booting up the PC, it has always been fairly slow. But that doesn’t really bother me at all as once OO is loaded and cached in memory, it loads quickly thereafter. At the time I’m [...]
