I wish I’m invisible

by Stanley, December 27, 2011

One of the worst things about working from home is people think you can be approached 24/7. When they see a guy in casual tees and bermudas, they don’t see him as a working individual. That is why some people wear proper office attire even when they work from home. Over the top maybe but I can relate to that.

Having your own uninterrupted working space at home is crucial. In fact it is so important that I think if such an arrangement is not possible, quit working from home altogether. It will never work out.

Work from 9 to 5 religiously, preferrably with no interruptions except the breaks you take. Working hours should be respected no matter what. Tell that to your family members. It helps if no one is below the age of 5. If you have young kids around and no one else but only you and your wife looks after them, you are fucked.

Working from home with kids around

December 27, 2011
My computer desk is placed in the living room. Right next to the TV and where my kids hang around all day long when they are not sleeping. It has been this way after our second child was born. There has to be an adult around to keep an eye on our two kids. [...]

Starting Android casual game development

October 20, 2011
I’m toying with the idea of developing a 2d platform game for Android mainly aimed at kids. After a short research, I’ve decided a 2d game engine would be the best way to start with. Commercial ones as opposed to open-source options. Some of the best commercial game engines for mobile gaming are also the [...]

Lim Guan Eng son dragged into UMNO’s smear campaign

October 20, 2011
The latest smear campaign against Penang CM, Lim Guan Eng, highlights a new low in UMNO gutter politics. The headline reads “VVIP son molest schoolmate’s breasts.” Pro-UMNO blogger conveniently pieced together a photo of Lim Guan Eng’s son as fellow molester and women’s chess champion representing England, Anna Sun Corke, as the victim. UMNO ministers pounced [...]

Pioneer SP-BS41-LR best value-for-money bookshelf speakers?

September 30, 2011
According to this year’s Sept issue of Stereophile, Pioneer SP-BS41-LR is “killer for the money”. I’m looking out for a new set of speakers for my PC. Considering I’ll be playing mostly MP3s or FLAC formats at best, from a mediocre sound card, it’ll be a waste to buy expensive hi-fi speakers. I don’t see [...]

Stiches on my gums removed

September 20, 2011
I just came home from my dentist after having my stiches removed. I had my impacted wisdom tooth extracted about 10 days ago. I was expecting my gums, which was cut during dental surgery, to be swollen and painful during the healing process. So much so, I would have trouble eating. But to my pleasant surprise, there [...]

Radiator fan fixed but rising temperature may have damaged my aircon

September 1, 2011
My radiator fan’s motor decided to quit on me yesterday. The first thing I did this morning was have it replaced. No problem, that’s what I thought. The temperature rise yesterday afternoon may have damaged my aircon system somewhere. Barely hours having had my fan’s motor fixed, my aircon lost a significant amount of gas. [...]
