Porch is extended with cedar pergola kits lookalike and decorated with hanging flowers and vines. I’ve never been invited to many outdoor weddings. I guess the unpredictable tropical weather we have here is a hindrance. The searing heat during the day is uncomfortable and the unexpected rain could be an inconvenience. But it’s nice to something out of the ordinary for a change.

Dread having to wake up at 6am tomorrow morning. It’s my wife’s ob-gyn appointment, 4th month appointment to be exact. I have to drive to the clinic as early as I can to queue up. The queue starts to form as early as 6.45am and the clinic stops accepting patients once it registers around 35 patients. That could happen as early as 9.30am on most days, according to the nurses.

It’s not the early morning or having to queue up that sucks. It’s the rushing and driving. Once I get a number, I have to rush home to get my daughter ready for school. Fetch her to school at around 8.15am. Drive back home, get some house chores done and rush my wife to her ob-gyn’s clinic by no later than 9.15am, hopefully. That’s 3 round trips to town within a 3 hour period. Hectic.

For as long as I can remember, my grandma has always been a wonderful cook. I grew up with my grandma living together with my parents. She is responsible for most of the food that was put on the table day and night. Grandma’s love for food span from common household Chinese food to fine-dining quality French and Italian cuisine. She also makes wonderful cakes, pastries and deserts. She’ll be celebrating her 80th birthday next month and I’m already narrowing down the choices of gourmet presents that grandma will love. Getting her gifts is easy, she always appreciate anything that is related to cooking.

Our local clubhouse have installed ADA pool lifts in 3 of their Olympic sized swimming pools. In the US, American Disabilities Act required public pools to install pool lifts to allow accessibility for disabled people who can’t use the ladder or stairs. I’m delighted with the club’s decision to install pool lifts although it is not required by the law of our country. This is small step but goes a long way to show care and consideration for all members of the club.

I downloaded (a cracked version of) the new Angry Birds Space and installed it on my PC. Gave with a spin for a couple of levels to see if it would perk up my interest in a game I’ve not touched in more than a year. Nope. The space version may have added a few interesting twists to the game, but fundamentally it is still slinging a couple of birds at them pigs. My daughter too has not played Angry Birds in many months. We downloaded the entire game in my wife’s Android phone for her. She never played past 10 levels and we uninstalled it the next day. Angry Birds just isn’t very exciting is it? Boring even. It’s a mystery how it became a permanent fixture in everyone’s smartphone until today. I’d rather spend my time playing a 2D retro platformer instead.

The new playstation portable successor - Vita, is launched locally and I got my first 15 mins hands-on yesterday at a gaming retailer. I’ve always been a Playstation fan and everytime a new product is launched, I’m game. I spent my relatively short 15 mins with the Vita playing Reality Fighters, a Street-Fighter kind of game. The new Vita has a very powerful processor for a gaming console. The specs and numbers are highly impresive. The graphics too are bound to impress. I’m sure portable gaming fans, Sony Playstation fans especially, will like the Vita. It is a very capable and polished successor to a legendary portable gaming console.

My friend run his own business and his warehouse dumps a lot of unused wooden pallets. And by a lot, I mean A LOT, seriously. He said I could hire a truck and take as many pallets as I want if I have any use for them. If I have some time on my hands, I might take some pallets home. With a bit of conditioning and creative woodworking, pallets can be recycled into beautiful rustic tables and shelves. Case in point, my neighbour who knocked pallets together to form a huge rack with 4 level shelves to house pots of freshly grown herbs. It looks beautiful and blend in nicely with the rest of his garden.

In barely a month, I have downloaded enough 1080p movies to fill half of my 1TB portable HDD capacity. At this rate I’m going to max out my 1TB drive in less than 3 months. I can’t be buying a portable HDD every 3 months so this won’t do. One full HD movie can occupy as much as 10GB. On average it’s between 4GB to 8GB in file size. If you collect movies, you’ll fill up a 1TB HDD in no time. I’m going to delete many movies and only keep the ones I really like.
