Oil debate: Anwar Ibrahim (1) vs Shabery Cheek (0)

by admin, July 15, 2008

Did Information Minister Shabery Cheek said he would resign if he failed to defend the Government’s fuel policy? I missed that quote but if that’s indeed the case, he might as well pack up and call the cab.

In all my years of writing essays and oratory tests in school, god knows how many times I’ve strayed from a topic having misinterpreted the questions I have faced. But I’ve never done half as bad as Shabery Cheek in last night’s debate against Anwar. Some questions were so straightforward, clear and precise. And yet Shabery had the cheek to veer totally off-topic in his attempt to avoid answering them at all. Why? UMNO has absolutely no valid facts and figures to back their claims. A debate against Anwar Ibrahim is the last thing on their mind right now, that is why we they sent Shabery Cheek to be slaughtered alive last night. So instead he did what UMNO does best and did it quite well considering he used nearly half the allocated debate time to:

  • resort to personal attacks against Anwar Ibrahim leadership and character. Past, present and future.
  • self-glorifying and crediting UMNO and past PMs for today’s Petronas achievements
  • presenting twisted, irrelevant and illogical economic arguments and facts
  • justifying that rakyat should suffer expensive oil for the nation

Despite the low blows by Shabery Cheek, Anwar Ibrahim did not budge. He stood firm and remained true to the topic of debate which is oil. For someone who might end up being in jail today or tomorrow, I commend him for that.

Feng Shui wind chime disturbing our baby’s slumber

July 11, 2008
During dinner last night, I’ve been handed an ultra HUGE wind chime by my mom. To be hung at the window of our baby room. She reminded us numerous times it’s important to hang it by the middle window, not an inch left or right. It’s a Feng Shui thing and wind chimes are part [...]

Treadmills are boring aren’t they

July 11, 2008
I’ve had the new treadmill for over about 2 weeks now and has been working out whenever there’s free time around to exercise. I’d usually run leisurely in 30min and 45min sessions if time permits. Working out on a treadmill is perhaps one of the most boring activity ever. I thought jogging out in the [...]

Yeah right! I challenge anyone having watched that YouTube clip to say thats not a [...]

Collecting stuff

July 9, 2008
When I was a kid I like to collect things. Coins, cards, toys and stamps mainly. When I got older, I eventually lost interest. But my friend George never let his habit die. In fact, he’s 30 and still collecting stuff. The last time I went to his place was about a year ago. From [...]

Federer hanging on by a thread

July 6, 2008
It is raining in Wimbledon tennis courts now. The rain brought a stop to the Men’s Wimbledon finals match between Federer and Nadal. I’ll be sitting here at my PC to kill time until the match resumes. As a Federer fan, it’s heartbreaking to see him down two sets to love. The match stopped at 5-3 [...]
