My computer desk is placed in the living room. Right next to the TV and where my kids hang around all day long when they are not sleeping. It has been this way after our second child was born. There has to be an adult around to keep an eye on our two kids. No way I could afford to isolate myself for more than 10 minutes away from the kids. This is where I work and it is the worst working condition you could ever put yourself in. Noise isn’t what bothers me. In fact, I could focus perfectly well no matter how noisy a place I’m in. What distracts me most are the kids. Especially when they cry. I can concentrate with the TV blasting away or a blender right next to me or a room full of people chatting loudly. But not when my kids cry. And fuck me, my kids fight all the time and they only way they’d stop is one starts crying. If you think working from home is cool, sure it is. That is before you start having kids. Then you’ll appreciate how bloody good working in an office was, even if you used to work out of a boring cubicle.
• Asus Transformer
December 27, 2011I just played with the new Transformer Prime Eee Pad Asus launched recently. I’ve always admired Asus’s Transformer tablet + keyboard dock solution. Having used an iPad, I don’t enjoy typing on the virtual keyboard at all. It doensn’t give me the assuring feel of hitting the right keys so I end up typing very [...]

• Spy sunglasses
December 9, 2011My Christmas present. My wife bought me a pair of driving sunglasses today. It is bigger than my usual shades and blocks out sunlight coming from the sides. That makes it very much comfortable than mine. But I’m finding it hard to like the design. It looks like Spy Sunglasses and too big that what [...]

• Cable management
December 7, 2011Spent the entire morning cleaning my home office area. And I’ve finally grown fed up of messy computer wires behind my desk. The jungle of cables are collecting dust like crazy. Everytime I clean my home office, I spent quite a lot of time carefully disconnecting, wiping and reconnecting cables. I bought plenty of cable [...]

• Giving Google Chrome a spin
December 6, 2011I’m seriously considering switching over to Google Chrome. Firefox 8.0 has been giving me some serious lagging problems. It lags when exiting. Occassionally failure to restore browser windows after minimized for some time. And more that I could care to remember. It wasn’t a pleasant experience browsing with Firefox in the past few months as much [...]
